The Cévennes are a long chain of mountains in the south of the Massif Central, renowned for their wild natural beauty and diversity of the landscape. A Skedaddle classic in the making, this twin based mountain biking holiday explores the great rolling tracks of its high plains and the lush wooded trails of its steep sided valleys and is the perfect tour for those looking to developing your mountain biking skills, while enjoying some fantastic local hospitality.

After arrival into Lyon we transfer to our first base, an auberge in a small hamlet high on the plains. Plentiful local food and wine are on offer after thrilling days riding on the forest tracks and moorland trails that crisscross the Massif D Abraham, and famous mountain ridges of the Tanargue.

Crossing the massif de Prataubérat, through a woody terrain thick with blueberry and raspberry bushes we head out for our second base of this mountain biking holiday. A marvelous descent of around a thousand metres is our first taste of this new landscape; terraces of sweet chestnut trees, mulberry trees, and vineyards, source of the fabulous local wines. Forests trails, paths and short stretches of country road lead us to our next lodgings, a gite next to the Beaume river.

Once again traditional local recipes are the speciality of our host who will prepare all our meals on the premises. Over generations, the people of the Ardèche Cévennes have built magnificent stone villages and hamlets, perched on the mountainside, and we’ll discover the charms of these secret places in the concluding part of the mountain biking holiday week. This is a paradise perfect for exploring by mountain bike.

Our trails worn smooth by the postmen of yesteryear, will take us over high mountain passes that descend to medieval towns, & alongside luminous rivers that wind into wild gorges perfect for bathing.
